COMMUNE IMAGE
Created in 2010, Commune film factory and hotspot for independent filmmaking managed to established itself on audiovisual market with its 2500m2 (3000 square yards) entirely dedicated to production and postproduction. More than 30 feature film directors trusted Commune Image with their creations among them: Kaouther Ben Hania (Beauty and the Dogs, 2017), Marc Fouchard (Break it all, 2017), Miguel Gomes (Les Mille et une nuits, 2015), Franco Lolli (Gente de Bien, 2015), Thomas Salvador (Vincent, 2015), Hicham Ayouch (Fevers, 2014), Atiq Rahimi (The Patience Stone, 2013), Philippe Faucon (The Desintegration, 2012), Yolande Zauberman (Would you have sex with an Arab ?, 2012), Djinn Carrenard (Donoma, 2011), Renaud Barret and Florent de La Tullaye (Benda Bilili !, 2010)… With virtual reality, Commune Image and its residents explore today images from tomorrow.
POSTPRODUCTION
Commune Image provides its clients with a complete premium postproduction lab integrated to a novel and creative environment. It includes a big mixing auditorium created in 2015 by the acoustician Michel Deluc, completed by its FireCloud and DaVinci color grading space for small and large screens, its image and sound editing rooms and its audiovisual mixing auditorium.
PRODUCTION
Each year, Commune Image welcomes screenwriters, directors, producing companies and image and sound contractors. Today, there are 40 independent companies established at Commune Image.
The variety and complementary skills of the companies we accommodate promote a unique type of creative synergy. Among them, are companies handling feature and short-length films, documentaries, web series, advertisement and music clips… As well as contractors for sound design, mixing, color grading, VFX, translation, subtitling, graphic design, photography, gear rental, DCP etc…. With this creativity in mind, Commune Image teams up with various festivals such as Ciné Latino in Toulouse, Paris Court Devant, Silhouette and Fidlab in Marseille. Besides, Commune Image hosts the WIPP (Work In Progress Performance): the very first festival entirely dedicated to feature films in the making headed by Jean-Baptiste Germain.
INNOVATION 2017/2018
VIRTUAL REALITY
COMMUNE IMAGE teams up with cultural business incubator CREATIS, in partnership with VR CONNECTION, UNI-XR, NEXUS FORWARD and GENERATION NUMERIQUE to launch the first business incubator dedicated to virtual reality creation. We support start-ups groups of the sector (virtual reality, 360, augmented reality, mixed reality) since November 2017.
4 companies joined COMMUNE IMAGE VR’s first year group.
WEBSPIDER is a production company aiming for new narrative forms and technological innovation. One set of mind: offering new sensitive and commited experiences to users. Striving on different genres, Webspider addresses the status of storytelling in VR animation and digital/crossmedia creation.
OCEAN VIEW is a company specialized in submarine live-action techniques including a VR 360 stereoscopic rig dedicated to submarine documentary production.
CLAP & ZAP is a VR content production company specialized in full body tracking motion, a technology that is destined to refine immersion for virtual reality feature films. The user finds himself integrated within the body of an avatar, a well-known personality etc…
TAMANOIR in coproduction with ISOTROPE is an immersive content studio specialized in virtual reality. It arises from the association of a video game professional and a film producer. Their objective is to go beyond both ecosystems so VR becomes a full-fledged medium.
Simultaneously, Commune Image opens its VR Lab : an innovation showcase that falls within an approach of VR access’ democratization. It is therefore destined to be regularly open to public to present an exclusive set of VR creations handled by resident experts. It will also come as a support tool to Commune Image’s residents by providing infrastructures that are essential to the success and growth of their projects. The VR Lab is a hybrid and adjustable space fiercely oriented toward new imaging technologies.
PROGRAM
Each Wednesday evening Commune Image opens its doors for free from 6 :00 pm till midnight. This is the “Programmation Commune Image”, an evening of screening / show dedicated to unreleased content followed by a meet-up with the artistic teams within our welcoming bar / restaurant. On October 25th we launched the “Sélection Commune Image”, 20 Wednesdays per year selected in partnership with the WIP Performance and Jean-Baptiste Germain expert in art film development. All our Wednesday evenings are for free and open to everyone.
